Arrests Made in Local Theft, Break-In Cases

“The same night we were informed of a break-in on Wixtown Road where the suspects kicked the front door in, the resident woke up and the suspects then fled,” Crawford stated.

Following both of those incidents, on January 11, the theft of a 16-foot trailer was reported by a resident on Johnson Road.

“We received information that one of the stolen trailers might be located on Sparrow Road,” Crawford remarked. “It was later identified as the trailer stolen on January 10. The subjects questioned also provided the stolen chainsaw and a bag of tools. The stolen truck was recovered on Clifty Road.”

The subject interviewed on Sparrow Road went on to tell authorities that two individuals – Misty Hewgley and Matthew Woodruff – had recently brought a second trailer by the property for the subject to look at.

Authorities discovered where Hewgley was staying on Spring Creek Road and located the other stolen trailer and a 2014 Jeep stolen out of Ohio.

Both Hewgley and Woodruff were at the Spring Creek Road residence when police arrived and a further search of the property led to the discovery of methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia.

Detective Crawford revealed that during the interview process, authorities learned that Hewgley and Woodruff were also responsible for the break-in on Wixtown Road, where they fled when the resident awoke.

Both suspects were charged with aggravated burglary, theft of property (3 counts), and possession of a schedule II drug.

Their bonds have been set at $49,000 (Woodruff) and $42,000 (Hewgley) and they are scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on January 25, 2017.

Macon County Sheriff Mark Gammons would like to thank the detectives and deputies that worked on these cases and urges anyone with information regarding criminal activity to contact his office. Callers may remain anonymous.
