Aggravated Assault on Church Street
On Wednesday, January 25, the Lafayette Police Department was dispatched shortly after noon to 508 Church Street, following a 911 call reporting that Jeffrey A. Amons had been assaulted by Travis T. Dobbs.

According to LPD Detective Shane Reed, Jeff Amons and Travis T. Dobbs had been to Cookeville and when they returned they went to Jeff’s house on Church Street. Travis Dobbs lives in the apartment behind the residence.
“They were in Jeff’s kitchen eating lunch and apparently Dodds had been drinking,” said Detective Reed. “Travis got up and went outside while Jeff was talking on the phone. When Jeff got off the phone, Travis had came back in and hit him in the head twice with a pipe wrench.”
Detective Reed says that Jeff was defending himself and hit Travis, knocking him toward the sink. “Travis grabbed a kitchen knife and began stabbing Jeff in the chest,” stated the Detective. “Luckily the stab wounds missed Jeff’s vital organs and he was able to wrestle Travis to the floor and keep him down until we got there,” said Det. Reed.
Jeff Amons was transported to Skyline Hospital for treatment of his injuries and was later released.
Mr. Dobbs was transported to Macon County General Hospital and after he was released he was arrested by the Lafayette Police Department. Dobbs is on parole out of Nashville.
Travis T. Dobbs was charged with aggravated assault and violation of parole. He bond is set at $50,000 and a General Sessions Court date is set for February 15, 2017.
More charges are pending.
