Macon Baseball Completes Full Week

Macon County baseball is in full swing and underway with multiple games.

This week the Tigers played five games in six days dodging the weather.

The week opened on Monday Mar 20 by hosting district foe Smith County. The Owls jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the 1st inning and hung-on to get the 3-1 win. Bryson Smith and Eric Kuster pitched and allowed 7 hits and 2 earned runs. Jake Reeves went 2 for 3 in the game and Michael Ashburn scored the lone run.

The return game was started in Tuesday Mar 21. This time Macon jumped out early and led 5-2 after the 3rd inning. After both teams scored one run the game was halted in the top of the 5th due to weather. They resumed the game on Wednesday and the Owls came alive, plating three runs in the bottom of the 5th and 2 in the bottom of the 7th to steal a win by a final score of 8-7 over the Tigers. Jake Reeves, Logan Thompson, and Erick Kuster pitched for the Tigers. Michael Ashburn had a tremendous game, scoring 3 runs hitting 3 of 4 with 2 RBIs and had 3 stolen bases. Kuster, Stetson White, Tyler Gann, and Aaron Colter scored the other Macon runs.

On Thursday Mar 23rd Macon travelled to Tompkinsville to face Monroe County KY in a rematch of a game the Tigers won 2-0 on Mar 16th. The game was held scoreless until the top of the 5th when Gann and Ashburn both scored. Monroe would score one run in the bottom of the 5th and then plate two more in the bottom of the 7th, the winning run with two outs, to take the victory 3-2. Aaron Colter threw 3 innings allowing 1 hit and no runs and Gann came on in relief and threw 3 2/3 innings allowing 7 hits and 3 earned runs. The Tigers scattered 8 hits in the game and committed one error.

The White House Blue Devils came to Lafayette on Friday Mar 24th. This game began as a pitcher’s duel with both men on the mound in jams early. However Macon scored two in the bottom of the 3rd only to see White House tie the game in the next half inning. Both squads would plate another run in the 6th and in extra baseball the Tigers would score in the bottom of the 8th to get the win by a final of 4-3. Austin Herbert went 7 innings and gave up 3 earned runs on 8 hits and had 8 strike-outs for the no-decision. Bryson Smith gets the win pitching 1 inning allowing no runs, no hits, and had no strike-outs. Kuster and Reeves both had two hits in the game.

The heavy week ended with a return game against Jackson County. The Blue Devils jumped out 2-0 after the 2nd but Macon would score 1 in the 3rd and 3 in the 4th. Both team’s bats got hot and in a shoot-out the Tigers win by a score of 9-6. Macon threw Trent Boles 4 innings and he allowed 2ER on 3 hits with 5Ks. Stetson White allowed 3ER on 1 hit and Logan Thompson threw 3 innings allowing 4 hits and 1ER with 3 Ks. Ashburn and Reeves both went 2 for 3 with I run scored and 1RBI.

This week the Tigers are scheduled to travel to Livingston in the 27th, host Livingston on the 28th, travel to Clay County on the 30th and play a double header at home against Cannon County on the 31st.
