New Pharmacy Coming!

By Mark Darnell

It was announced this week that Lafayette will have its first independently owned pharmacy in a number or years. They hope to be bringing back a true community pharmacy with fast friendly service and a true family atmosphere.

In a phone interview with “The Macon County Chronicle” the company confirmed their intentions here in Lafayette. This past week plans were approved with the Lafayette Planning Commission for the new location. Plans call for a 3,000 square foot store which will offer not only pharmaceutical but clinical service to the people of Macon County. The building will also have two drive-thrus and at least 27 parking spots. It will be located on part of the former Buck and Christine Harris property, behind the current Dollar General Store.

This store will be the first locally owned pharmacy since the closing of the pharmacy at McClards Drugs here in Lafayette. The new company hopes to be able to bring a local pharmacy back home. Speculation is that additional businesses may be coming on adjoining property on Hwy 52. However, the company indicated that the new pharmacy hopes to be fully operational by the end of the year.
