K-9 Unit Tracks Fleeing Suspect

A man driving a stolen vehicle attempted to flee authorities last week, but was ultimately taken down by the Macon County Sheriffs Department’s K-9 Unit.

According to the officer’s report, Deputy Josh Meador was on patrol Sunday, August 27, and got behind a white, Buick Century that had been reported stolen to the Macon County Sheriffs Department on August 21, 2017.
Deputy Meador attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled, violating numerous traffic laws before eventually stopping at the end of Wix Lane and running into a wooded area.
The report goes on to say that a short time later Deputies Jacob McClark and Jason Sells and Sergeant Joseph Woodard and K-9 Otto arrived on the scene.
“Sergeant Woodard deployed the K-9 unit to track the suspect, and he was captured in a wooded area and later identified as 33-year-old Casey Hagan of Red Boiling Springs,” stated Chief Deputy Bryon Satterfield.
The car was towed to the Macon County Sheriffs Department and an inventory of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a black backpack that contained a white, crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine, a set of scales and several hypodermic needles.
Hagan was arrested and charged with evading arrest, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, theft of property, manufacture/delivery/possession of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a legend drug, driving on a suspended license, criminal trespass, reckless driving and stop sign violation (2 counts).
His bond was set at $30,000, and he is scheduled to appear in Macon County General Sessions Court on September 27, 2017.
The owner of the stolen vehicle has been notified by authorities.
“I would like to commend the officers involved in this case and K-9 Otto for the capture of the suspect,” stated Macon County Sheriff Mark Gammons. “They did an outstanding job.”
