Saturday Wreck Kills One

By Debbie Gregory
The Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated a three-vehicle wreck over the holiday weekend on Hwy. 10 South, that killed the brother of one of the other drivers involved in the accident.

Around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, September 2, Trooper Adam Cothron came upon a wreck on Hwy. 10 South near the Taylor Branch Road intersection.
According to Trooper Cothron, 20-year-old Jesse Gregory, of Lafayette, was driving southbound on Hwy. 10 in a white 2004 Sierra pickup truck when he crossed over the double yellow line and side swiped a blue 1980 Toyota pickup driven by 26-year-old Jimmy Nix of Lafayette. “He then struck a white 2006 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 32-year-old Charles Nix, also of Lafayette,” said Trooper Cothron. “He was the brother of Jimmy Nix.”
Mr. Charles Nix was pronounced deceased at the scene. THP Sgt. Ashley Mercer assisted at the site.
No charges have been filed at this time.
Those responding to the wreck scene besides the THP, were the Macon County Sheriffs Office, Macon County EMS, Lafayette Fire Department, Macon County Rescue Squad and the Macon County Chronicle.
