Walmart Theft: Sushi, Air Rifle & Digital Scale

By Jessie Williams
A 24-year-old Red Boiling Springs man was arrested on October 30, after causing a scene at Walmart and admitting to theft.

According to the Affidavit of Complaint filed by Lafayette Police Department Officer Elliott Sandifer, he was dispatched to the Walmart store after Jacob Michael Brumley, a suspected shoplifter from a previous incident, was spotted in the store eating sushi and tossing the container in a random aisle.
Walmart’s Loss Prevention team pointed out the suspect from an incident that took place on October 28, 2017, where a male subject stole an air rifle (BB gun).
The male subject was caught on video and a photo was shown to Officer Sandifer.
“I did then make contact with the male subject identified as Mr. Jacob Brumley,” Sandifer’s report states. “While talking to Mr. Brumley, he did state that he had been in trouble in California for shoplifting in the past. He then stated that he was at Walmart on Saturday, October 28, 2017. Mr. Brumley did then admit to stealing the air rifle.”
Brumley told Officer Sandifer he also had a digital scale in his pants in his crotch area, and that Officer Sandifer could get it out, or he would retrieve it from his pants himself.
“When Sergeant Hix started to retrieve the item, Mr. Brumley started yelling and cussing,” states the report. “He kept saying to stop touching his privates and he began to kick at Sgt. Hix. He was causing a scene and disrupting people’s evenings.”
While resisting, Brumley broke Officer Sandifer’s handcuff key.
He was charged with shoplifting, resisting arrest, vandalism and disorderly conduct. Brumley’s bond was set at $3,000 and he is scheduled to appear in Macon County General Sessions Court on November 22, 2017.
