Attempted Criminal Homicide

By Jessie Williams
Two Lafayette men were arrested last week on charges of attempted criminal homicide after shooting up a home occupied by a man and his 12-year-old daughter on Swindle Road.

According to the affidavit of complaint filed by Lieutenant Darrell Taylor of the Macon County Sheriff’s Department, over a dozen rounds were fired from a pistol into the home from a vehicle outside. Bullets traveled through the front wall and window, continued though the living room wall into a bedroom, and exited out of the back wall of the home.
The male victim, Nathan Gregory, and his 12 year old daughter, were miraculously uninjured during the gunfire.
Officer Taylor said a neighbor, and the victims, were able to give a description of the vehicle the suspects were driving, and Gregory was able to identify their attackers by name.
“Deputies were able to stop a vehicle matching the description and found a handgun in the suspects’ possession that matched the casings and bullet holes found at the scene,” Taylor explained. “The victim and suspects did know each other.”
The suspects were identified as 33-year-old William Harvey Piper and 35-year-old Daniel E. Snowden, both of Lafayette.
They are charged with attempted criminal homicide (two counts) and remain at the Macon County Jail on $750,000 bond.
A General Sessions Court date has been set for December 20.
This case is still under investigation and further charges are pending.
