Lady Bulldogs Compete in Clinton County Holiday Classic
The Red Boiling Springs Lady Bulldogs played in the Clinton County(KY) Holiday Classic. RBS finished as the runner-up in the tournament with an eventful twist.
The Red Boiling Springs Lady Bulldogs would first face Dayton High School(KY). The first half of this game was very close as a 3 point advantage was the largest lead by either team and turnovers were a problem for both teams. The Lady Lions led at the break 28-26.The Lady Bulldogs were led in scoring by Liz Anderson with 8 points, Kennedy Fleming 6 points, Haley Davis and Bailey Morgan each had 5 points, and Briley Morgan had 2 points.
The Lady Bulldogs came out in the third quarter and had a tough time scoring and wound up scoring only 7 points in the quarter. Dayton took a 35-33 lead into the final quarter and with the Lady Bulldogs in foul trouble, RBS would come up short and lose 52-49.
Next the Lady Bulldogs would face the host team. These girls played with a little chip on their shoulder following the first round loss. With a stiff defense RBS led 17-4 heading into the 2nd quarter. Fleming and Anderson each had 6 points, while Davis chipped in 4 points.
Full court pressure was too much for Clinton County and the trailed 16-31 at the break. Morgan led the 2nd quarter scoring with 6 points. With the score 53-29 heading into the final period, Coach McKinney was able to empty his bench. Final score was RBS 73 Clinton Co 41.
Now Red Boiling Springs would play Cumberland County(KY). Fleming would score 12 of her 23 total points in the 1st quarter to stake the Lady Bulldogs to a 37-16 halftime lead. These young ladies were never really challenged in this game and cruised to a 61-31 win. Davis and Anderson finished with 11 points each, Morgan had 6 points, Briley Morgan had 6 and Bailey Morgan had 4 points, Iesha Smith had 4 points, and Amber McCarter had 2 points.
There were three teams tied for 2nd place and the tie-breaker to see who would play in the Championship was who outscored their opponent in the most score. RBS was the winner of 6 quarters in their three games and got the opportunity to play Livingston Academy in the Championship.
The Lady Bulldogs were clearly the underdog in this contest but they managed to keep the entire game close. Fleming scored 18 first half points while Davis had 7 and Briley Morgan had 8. RBS trailed at the break 32-35.
The Lady Wildcats knew that stopping Flemming was the key to victory so they had two girls on her in the second half. With that strategy both teams wound up having a cold second half. Even though RBS cut the lead to one heading into the final quarter, Livingston would do just enough to get the win by a final score of 45-42.
Fleming finished with 20 points, Briley Morgan had 8 points, Davis had 7 points, Smith had 4 points, and Anderson had 2 points.
With the loss the Lady Bulldogs finish 2 and 2 and take home a 2nd place finish to end holiday play.
