Man Dies in House Fire

A Macon County man died in a Hartsville Road house fire on Monday night.

According to Lafayette Fire Chief Troy Brawner, they received a call around 11:40 p.m. on Monday night, March 5, reporting a structure fire on the Hartsville Road and upon arrival they found heavy smoke and flames were visible inside the structure.
Macon County deputies, who arrived before the fire department, attempted to get the man out, but weren’t able to. It is reported that they had to be treated for smoke inhalation.
Chief Brawner stated that the victim died of heat and smoke, but the name has not been officially released.
The chief also said that the State Fire Marshall came and conducted an investigation, and then turned it over to the Macon County Sheriffs Office.
