The Macon County Sheriffs Department recently intercepted 6.7 grams of methamphetamine that individuals planned to smuggle into the jail.

According to Sheriff Mark Gammons, his department has spent several weeks investigating a plot by individuals to drop illegal narcotics to inmates in an attempt to smuggle them into the jail.

During their investigation, detectives intercepted information on the whereabouts of a drop location for meth.

“Upon an extensive search by officers and corrections officers, we were able to locate these narcotics,” the sheriff stated.

The meth weighed in at 6.7 grams and was sent to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for analysis.

“We are currently still investigating and conducting interviews in this case,” Sheriff Gammons remarked. “Arrests are forthcoming.”
