Reckless Driver Faces Meth Charges

A 21-year-old Westmoreland man was arrested on drug charges last week after officers discovered .57 grams of meth in his vehicle.

According to a report filed by Deputy Jason Sells of the Macon County Sheriff’s Department, a reckless driver nearly hit his patrol car on Scottsville Road Saturday, March 24. 

After initiating a traffic stop on the vehicle on Bratton Avenue, Deputy Sells identified the driver as 21-year-old Benjamin Clay Wright and discovered he was driving on a suspended license. 

Deputy Sells conducted an inventory search of the vehicle before it was to be towed and found a baggie containing .57 grams of finished methamphetamine product and drug paraphernalia, that included rolling papers and a cut straw with a white residue inside. 

These items were taken into evidence and will be sent to the TBI lab for testing. 

Deputy Sells was assisted by officers from the Lafayette Police Department.

Mr. Wright was booked into the Macon County Jail on charges of manufacture/delivery/possession of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a suspended license, reckless driving and financial responsibility violation. 

His bond was set at $8,000 and he is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on April 25.
