Caught on Video: Man Charged in Multiple Thefts

By Jessie Williams

A Hartsville man has been charged in multiple thefts in both Macon and Sumner County.

According to authorities, a break-in was reported on July 13 at a residence on Cedar Bluff Road that was being remodeled. The homeowner stated that the back door had been pried open and a handgun was stolen.

Then, on July 18, the same homeowner reported a second break-in. This time, the suspect gained entry through the front door and appeared to move items in a way that led the homeowner to believe he or she would return to retrieve them.

Video footage of the suspect at the scene was given to authorities.

In conjunction with the Lafayette Police Department, the footage was sent out to multiple agencies in the hopes of identifying him.

The suspect was identified as 28-year-old Terry Lee Coker, II, of Hartsville, and he was located on Scottsville Road by Deputy William Tuck of the Macon County Sheriff’s Department on July 18.

Mr. Coker was detained and brought to the sheriff’s office for questioning where he admitted to the theft of a motorcycle in Sumner County, an earlier theft in the City of Lafayette, and the break-ins on Cedar Bluff Road.

Coker was charged with theft of property (2 counts), burglary, vandalism and criminal trespassing. His bond is set at $6,500, and he is scheduled to appear in Macon County General Sessions Court on August 15, 2018.

Local agencies have been notified of the incident and charges are being filed accordingly.

This case remains under investigation.
