New County Animal Control Officer Hired

By Debbie Gregory

A new Macon County Animal Control Officer has been hired.

“After the recent problems involving the Macon County Dog Pound, we would like to let everyone know that we have a new Macon County Animal Control Officer, Mrs. Jamie Weekley,” said County Mayor Steve Jones. “Jamie started a few days ago and she is very enthused over having the new job. She loves to deal with animals.”

“We’ve had a lot of inquiries about the animal control position,” continued Mayor Jones, “and we have a community that really supports animal control. “We are wanting to get a volunteer system in place where Jamie will have help with her new job. This is an important position and there is a lot to do with taking care of the animals, as well as making the calls out. So, we hope to get the volunteer program implemented through some policies so we can move forward with the people who would like to be volunteers.”

The mayor says that Jamie has a lot of experience working with animals, since she is from a ranch. “Jamie is used to dealing with large animals, as well as small animals,” said the mayor. “We look forward to what Jamie will be able to provide for Macon County in animal control.”

“I am glad to have the opportunity to work for the citizens of Macon County,” said Jamie. “I enjoy animals and I hope to be an asset to animal control in this county.”

Each week, the Macon County Chronicle will be running pictures of dogs at the Macon County Dog Pound that are available for adoption.

According to Jamie, there is an adoption application along with a minimal fee. All dogs that are adopted have to be vaccinated, along with being spayed or neutered in seven days or have an appointment in seven days.
