Lafayette CO-OP Vehicle Thief Charged

A 46-year-old Lafayette man is behind bars after stealing vehicles that belonged to the local CO-OP on two occasions. 

 

According to a report filed by Lafayette Police Department Detective Jason Roberts, Scottie Douglas Turner unlawfully exercised control of a 2001 Dodge flatbed truck and a 16-foot bumper trailer, both valued at a total of $20,000, on Sunday, September 16.

The vehicle and trailer belonged to the Macon-Trousdale Farmers CO-OP and was parked at the CO-OP’s Lafayette location on Scottsville Road. 

The trailer was recovered in Sumner County by means of a GPS locator. The truck was located in Macon County later the same day.

Turner allegedly caused over $1,000 in property damage at the CO-OP in his attempt to commit the theft. 

At the time of his arrest for this incident, Turner was also charged for the theft of a 2012 GMC truck from the Lafayette CO-OP on September 7, 2018. 

According to Roberts’ report on that incident, Turner gained access to the parked vehicle around midnight.

The vehicle’s GPS locator allowed authorities to track it along with the route Turner had taken. 

He returned the vehicle at 2:30 a.m. undamaged. 

Turner was charged with joyriding, theft of property, vandalism, aggravated burglary and violation of order of protection in both cases.

His bond was set at $23,000, and he is scheduled to appear in general sessions court on October 10 and November 21.
