See Your New ER Department! Open House at Macon Community Hospital
By Debbie Gregory
The long awaited dream of a new Emergency Room Department at Macon Community Hospital has finally come true, and you are invited to come and take a look at what’s been done, at the Open House on December 12th, from 10:00 a.m till 11:30 a.m.
“We’ve been working long and hard on the construction of a new and improved ER Department,” said Thomas Kidd, CEO of Macon Community Hospital, “and we are inviting the public to join us for tours of the new emergency facility, a special ribbon cutting, refreshments, door prizes and more.”
“This has been a long time coming,” said Kidd, “and the new ER Department will offer more room for patients and shorter wait time.”
According to Thomas Kidd, other ER improvements include: every patient will be able to have a private room, a new entrance with a separate waiting area, ambulances will have a separate entrance and will not be bringing patients through the outpatient area of the hospital, there is a room for physicians and staff to meet with the patient and/or family in private, there are two large trauma/cardiac rooms, an emergency OB room, an isolation room, four private exam rooms, and a holding room for mental health patients.
“The new hospital entrance, hospital parking, out-patient, in-patient, and emergency department entrance will now be on West Locust Street,” said Kidd. “People can pull their vehicles underneath the awning at the new entrance and let patients out if it is raining or snowing. There is an emergency station centrally located, where the staff can keep track of all the patients. Also, the examine rooms are a lot bigger and have better lighting.”
Thomas says they are also adding a lot of new equipment in the ER Department, including EKG machines and new x-ray equipment, so tests can be done there instead of taking patients to other areas in the hospital. “We are doing everything we can to provide higher quality care for patients in our community,” shared Kidd.
“Once we move into the new ER Department, the old emergency room area will be demolished and rebuilt,” noted Kidd. “There will be staff areas located there, along with an out-patient waiting room, chapel and registration area.”
“When the new entrance is completed, the other entrances to the hospital will be locked so that everybody can come through the main entrance,” said Kidd, “and that will provide a lot more security and make everyone safer.”
“We are all very proud of the new ER Department at Macon Community Hospital,” added Kidd, “and we hope you will help us celebrate at the Open House on Wednesday, December 12th.”
