RBS Girls and Boys win over Monterey

An overflow crowd packed the Dog Pound last Friday night to watch Red Boiling Springs take on the Monterey Wildcats and if you are a Bulldog fan then you enjoyed the action.

The Lady Bulldogs had little trouble with the Lady Cats winning by a final score of 78-35. The boys game was a whole different story as the Bulldogs came from behind to claim a 57-56 victory that left everyone in the building stunned.

The girls game was all Lady Bulldogs thanks to a smothering defense and all five starters knocking down three pointers (10) in the first half as the Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 45-24 halftime lead and cruised to a 78-35 victory. Kennedy Fleming’s total of 34 points included 7 three pointers along with Liz Anderson who scored 9 points with three from long distance. Point guard Haley Davis had 17 points and 6 points from 3 point range.

The Lady Cats had trouble the entire game with the full court pressure and their total of 24 turnovers kept them from getting into any kind of rhythm. The Lady Bulldogs held a 25 to 21 rebound advantage and the Lady Cats shot a season low 22% from the field. Lindsay Randolph led the Lady Bulldogs in rebounding with 7.

This was a very special night for Kennedy Fleming who recorded her 1000 point for her career and she is only a junior. Give her teammates a lot of credit for her success. Total scoring for the Lady Bulldogs: Kennedy Fleming 34 points, Haley Davis 17 points, Briley Morgan 10 points, Liz Anderson 9 points, Iesha Smith 6 points, and Rhiannon Hix and Mary Ellen Copas each had 1 point.

The boys game was a up and down the court the entire first half and the big news was the three fouls that sent Bulldog Dalton Marsh to the bench in the second quarter with the Bulldogs leading 24-20. Marsh is the leading scorer for the Bulldogs and also leads in rebounding. The question now is will the Bulldogs fold or will they dig down and keep the game close. These Bulldogs decided to play ball and they turned to Matthew Murphy for some scoring and Murphy responded by scoring 15 first half points while Hunter Kirk scored 7 points and Mason Hix scored 5 points and the Bulldogs go to the break with a 35-34 lead.

The third quarter was all Wildcats as they held the Bulldogs to only 8 points as Marsh picked up his fourth foul and the Wildcats go to the fourth quarter with a 51-43 lead. The Bulldogs defense came alive in the fourth quarter and the Wildcats missed 6 shots that allowed the Bulldogs to claw their way back into this game behind Marsh who scored 9 four quarter points including 2 free throws that gave the Bulldogs their first lead of the second half at 57-56 with 13 seconds on the clock. The Wildcats had three shots in the final 13 seconds but two of those were blocked.

Scoring totals for the Bulldogs: Matthew Murphy 20 points, Dalton Marsh 13 points, Mason Hix 10 points, Hunter Kirk 7 points, Dalton Thompson 4 points, and Darion Williams 3 points.

The Bulldogs will welcome Jackson County to the Dog Pound tonight Dec.11.
