By Jessie Williams
A 36-year-old Lafayette woman was arrested two days in a row for a variety of crimes including shoplifting, driving under the influence and texting while driving.
According to a report filed by patrolman Jason Sells of the Lafayette Police Department, he was dispatched to Walmart after reports of a possible shoplifter on Saturday, December 15.
When Officer Sells arrived on the scene, he observed Carrie Denise Jenkins speaking with one of the store’s asset protection associates.
Jenkins admitted taking items in her purse and not paying for them.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered the purse she was carrying was also stolen.
A total of 26 items were found to be stolen by Jenkins – a total value of $134.15.
She was placed under arrest and booked into the Macon County Jail on $500 bond.
She was released after making bond and then arrested again the following day, December 16.
During that incident, Lafayette Police Officer Elliott Sandifer was dispatched to the area of Highway 52 and Highway 10 after a caller reported the driver of a black Volvo driving erratically. The caller stated that they had to pull over on the shoulder of the road to avoid the car from hitting them.
The driver, Carrie Jenkins, appeared to be sluggish and disoriented when the officer spoke with her and it was determined she was impaired following an administered field sobriety test.
Jenkins admitted to taking a Xanax within the hour and to texting while driving.
She was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, testing while driving, driving left of center, drivers license violations, failure to change address, reckless endangerment and driver to exercise due care.
Her bond for these charges was set at $4,500.
She is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on February 13, 2019.
