Deputy Apprehends Wanted Man: Gun & Meth Found

By Jessie Williams

A Macon County Sheriff’s Department deputy who followed his instincts, was able to apprehend a wanted man and get 14.6 grams of meth off the streets last week.

Deputy Dylan Gann was on patrol Monday, January 7, when he observed a male subject sitting inside a gray Mazda in the parking lot of Macon Bank & Trust.

The parked vehicle appeared to be suspicious to the officer, and he made contact with the driver – 25-year-old Jacob Isaac Chitwood.

After speaking with Mr. Chitwood, Deputy Gann learned he had an active warrant out for his arrest, for violating his probation, and also noticed he had a handgun laying in the passenger seat.

After taking Chitwood into custody, Deputy Gann, along with other deputies, performed a search of the vehicle.

They recovered a .40 caliber handgun, two clear bags of what appeared to be meth, Hydrocodone pills and other narcotics, digital scales, numerous clear baggies, ammunition for the handgun and a glass pipe used for smoking methamphetamine.

Based on the items found inside Chitwood’s vehicle, it appeared the 14.6 grams of meth was in his possession for the purpose of resale.

All of the items seized by law enforcement were sent to the TBI for further analysis and official weight.

Chitwood’s charges include theft of property, driving while in possession of meth, violation of probation, possession of a schedule III drug, driving on a suspended license, possession of a firearm during a felony, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a schedule II drug, manufacture of narcotics, use of a stolen/lost vehicle license plate and manufacture/delivery/possession of meth.

His bond was set at $25,900, and he is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on March 27, 2019.
