Separate Fires Destroy Two Homes

Lafayette firefighters battled separate fires over a three day period, that destroyed two mobile homes on opposite sides of Macon County.

 

The Lafayette Fire Department answered the first call on Hickory Lane around 3:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon, March 22, that destroyed a single wide mobile home rental, that was owned by Judson Morgan.

According to LFD Captain Michael Bransford, upon arrival they found a mobile home that was fully involved. The Lafayette Fire Department utilized one engine and two tankers, and there were 11 firefighters at the fire site. Fire Chief Troy Brawner was in charge of the scene and the cause of the fire was undetermined. The occupant was Teresa D’Amico. 

Those responding to the scene included the Lafayette Fire Department, Macon County Sheriff’s Office, Macon County EMS and the Macon County Chronicle.

At approximately 12:14 a.m. early Sunday morning, March 24, the Lafayette Fire Department responded to a call on Pryor Lane that destroyed a double wide mobile home. 

According to Captain Michael Bransford, when firefighters arrived the mobile home was fully involved. Prior to the fire department arriving, Constable John David assisted owner Angela Brown, who was inside the home when it caught on fire, to safety.

The Lafayette Fire Department received mutual aid from the Westmoreland Fire Department, who sent an engine, a tanker and six firefighters.

There were 15 Lafayette firefighters at the scene and they utilized Engine 2, both tankers and Truck 5. Chief Troy Brawner and Asst. Chief Don Stevens were in charge of the scene.

The cause of this fire was also undetermined. Firefighters remained on the scene for almost three hours. The fire department also responded when the fire rekindled several hours later.

No injuries were reported at either fire.

Captain Bransford stated that the Lafayette Fire Department had answered nine calls in the last few days.
