Gun-Wielding Man Arrested on Main St.

By Jessie Williams

Forty-year-old Steven Edward Davis was placed into custody by officers last Friday, April 12, after allegedly pointing a loaded gun at law enforcement and waving the gun around while he walked down Main Street.

According to a report filed by Lafayette Police Department Patrolman Byron Butcher, he along with Sergeant Derrick Gann and Deputy Joseph Woodard, responded to reports of a male subject with a gun at a residence on Main Street.

Upon their arrival, the officers encountered Mr. Davis in his front yard holding a pistol to his head.

Davis was asked multiple times to drop his weapon before screaming at officers to shoot him and pointing his pistol in their direction.

Mr. Davis proceeded to walk down Main Street, in the roadway, while waving the gun around.

Civilian traffic was traveling on the street, while the incident was taking place.

When Davis was taken into custody, it was discovered that the 22 caliber pistol was loaded with six rounds.

Davis was charged with aggravated assault (3 counts) and reckless endangerment.

His bond was set at $100,000, and he is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on May 22, 2019.
