Man Assaulted in Road Rage Incident

By Jessie Williams

A road rage incident led to the assault of a Macon County man on Wixtown Road last Friday, May 10.

According to the affidavit of complaint filed by Macon County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Bryan Emberton, the officer was dispatched to a residence on Wixtown Road after a man reported being physically assaulted by another driver in a road rage incident.

The victim stated he was traveling on Rocky Mound Rd. when he got behind a silver SUV that was driving slow, and he passed it.

The driver of the SUV then allegedly followed him all the way to Wixtown Road, passed him and then stopped his vehicle in the road.

The driver of the SUV, later identified as 29-year-old Tory Keith Mote, reportedly then jumped out of his vehicle, walked toward the victim’s vehicle, opened the door, and began punching him in the face.

The victim was able to provide authorities with a tag number and description of the vehicle. After running the tag number, officers were able to track it to a residence on Coolidge Road.

The owner of the vehicle told police she let her boyfriend, Mr. Mote, borrow her vehicle to go help a friend.

Approximately two hours later, Mote returned to his girlfriend’s residence and was questioned. Evidence gathered by officers did match the description of events provided by the victim, and Mr. Mote was arrested and charged with assault. His bond was set at $1,000, and he is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on June 5, 2019.
