Junior Tigers lose to Upperman in Championship

The Macon County Junior High Tigers faced the Upperman Junior High Jackets in the championship game of the Middle Tennessee Football Conference playoffs.

The Tigers fell by a final of 20-14.

After Macon fumbled in their opening drive they didn’t get the ball back till midway thru the second period. Gabe Borders had a 56 yard run down to the 1 yard line and then scored on a sneak with 5:01 left in the half. He also made the conversion giving the Tigers an 8-0 lead.

Upperman rammed the ball right down the field and scored and made the conversion with 0:26 left in the first half to tie the game at 8-8.

The Jackets got the ball to begin the third period and scored on a 50 yard run. The conversion was no good and with 6:03 left in the quarter Upperman led 14-8. Macon answered on the next possession with a Gabe Borders nine yard score. The conversion failed and we were tied 14-14 with 1:01 left in the third quarter.

With 5:31 left in game the Tiger defense stopped Upperman on downs near mid filed. However the ensuing drive stalled, due in part to an unsportsman penalty from the sideline. Upperman took the ball and marched down the field, scoring on a 34 yard run. After the conversion failed Macon would get the ball back with 1:50 left in the game.

The Tigers were able to drive down and get it to the Upperman nine yardline with 0:28 left, but no timeouts. Time expired with an interception in the endzone and Upperman wins the championship by a final score of 20-14.

Even in defeat the Tigers played a great game to watch for the huge crowd that followed them to Baxter. They finish the season with a record of seven and two.
