Tigers defeat Panthers

The Macon County Tigers got their second region win by beating Stone Memorial by a final score of 16-6.

This will run the Tigers record to 4-3 on the season.

On their first offensive possession the Tigers marched down the field running the ball. Tiger Cameron Houston scored on a 25 yard run while Ryan Underwood converted the point after for a 7-0 lead with 7:08 left in the first period.

After exchanging a few possessions Underwood converted on a 25 yard field goal with 9:52 left in the half. On their next possession the Tigers would fumble in their own territory and the Panthers scored to make it 10-6 at the break.

Late in the third period, with the game still in the balance, Ethan Jenkins hit Cameron Mercer on a 29 yard half-back pass for a touchdown. The extra point was no good and with 0:48 left in the third Macon led 16-6.

Once again the Tiger defense had a great game with a bend-but-not-break mentality. Final score Macon 16 Stone Memorial 6.

For the game Jon Mark Gammons was 2 for 8 for 19 yards and Jenkins was 1 for 1 for 29 yards and a touchdown. Mercer caught two balls for 33 yards and a score while Landon Whittemore had one catch for 15 yards. Jenkins led the Tigers with 90 yards on 20 carries. Isaac Belton had 71 yards on 16 carries while Cameron Houston had 61 yards on six carries and a touchdown. Dylan Chupp had 10 yards on three carries.

Linebacker Austin Robinson had nine tackles as well as defensive lineman Rodney Tuck. Isaac Belton had eight and linebacker Dawson Long had seven for Macon County.

With this win the Tigers are guaranteed at least 3rd place in the region. Now the Tigers will have two weeks to prepare for a showdown at DeKalb County on Oct 18. The winner of that contest will be guaranteed at least 2nd place in the region and will host a play-off game in the first round.
