Fleming Sets School Record

Both RBS teams pick up wins over Jo Byrns, but Kennedy Fleming set a school record.

The Red Boiling Springs Lady Bulldogs have not played well the last three games. However with Jo Byrns making the long trip to the Dog Pound last Thursday night with high hopes of pulling off a major upset they forgot that you had better guard Lady Bulldog Kennedy Fleming. She torched the Lady Devils for 48 points plus 10 rebounds and 6 assists and an 82-72 score favored the Lady Bulldogs. During a 5 minute span in the second quarter Fleming scored 12 straight points.

Jo Byrns has a very good girls basketball team and they showed that by leading the Lady Bulldogs 17-10. With Fleming scoring 22 points in the second quarter the Lady Bulldog led at halftime 37-34. Haley Davis scored 8 first half points and Briley Morgan had 5 first half points. The Lady Bulldogs realized they had to play some defense.

Fleming picked up in the third quarter where she left over in the second quarter by scoring 18 points including six points from beyond the three point line. Fleming made a shot from the backcourt just as the horn sounded to end the first half. Fleming had 18 points in the third quarter to give her 42 points going into the fourth quarter. The Lady Bulldogs led 60-56 going into the final quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs took advantage of the three girls that had fouled out and Haley Davis had two nice long distance three pointers in the fourth quarter while Fleming had only six points in the fourth quarter. Briley Morgan had five points and eight rebounds plus three steals.

The Lady Bulldogs finished in 4th place in District 6A and will play Wednesday night in Livingston. Game time is 6 p.m. We are still doing some research on Kennedy Fleming to see where she stands state wide.

The boys game was all Bulldogs as they led 18-9 after the first quarter and the half time score was 35-19 over a outmatched Devils team that was much smaller than the Bulldogs. Dalton Marsh was unstoppable in the paint scoring seven points in the first quarter and 12 points in the second quarter. James Sampson made two long three pointers in the first half while Matthew Murphy had 4 points. Mason Hix made a three pointer and Dalton Thompson had a two point basket.

The second half was a mixture of Marsh scoring 10 points and Murphy scoring seven points. Omar Williams had six second half points while Cody Mea had four points and Justin Bohannon had two points. Dylan Gross and Walker Reynolds played but failed to score.

The Bulldogs will play this Thursday at Livingstone and game time is 7:30. Both Coach Owens and McKinney wanted to say thanks to everyone who came to the games both home and away and we look forward to your support in the district tournaments and hopefully the region.
