By Jessie Williams

A 35-year-old Lafayette man was arrested on multiple charges after a suspicious person riding an ATV on private property was reported to authorities Saturday, February 15.

According to the officer’s report, the subject was spotted on private property off Wilburn Lane and was later seen driving the ATV on Winding Stairs Lane.

Deputy Austin Cliburn arrived at the scene and discovered the abandoned ATV near the woods in the Winding Stairs area. The ATV was found to be stolen from a barn off of Old Bottom Road earlier the same day. Damage had also been done to property adjacent to the residence the ATV was stolen from.

The suspect, Elliott Kerstner, was apprehended after authorities found him nearby walking on foot.

Kerstner was charged with criminal trespass, ATV on road, theft of property over $10,000, burglary and vandalism. His bond was set at $24,000.

The ATV was returned to, and identified by, its rightful owner.
