Former THP Officer Arrested

By Jessie Williams

A former Tennessee Highway Patrol officer was arrested Sunday, June 28, for violating an order of protection that was issued against him by a family member.

According to the officer’s report, a family member filed the order of protection against 53-year-old Keith D. Garrett, of Lafayette, approximately one week ago.

After the order was served to him, he then allegedly violated the order by going to the protected party’s place of employment and leaving notes on their vehicle and was also seen driving by slowly, causing the protected party to be afraid.

An arrest warrant was issued for Garrett for violating the order of protection, and he was later arrested on June 28, 2020 and transported to the Macon County Jail for booking.

The Macon County Chronicle did contact the District 3 Tennessee Highway Patrol office to inquire about Garrett’s employment following his arrest.

We were told he is no longer employed with the THP.

The dates of his employment were not available through the Human Resources Department as of press time.

Mr. Garrett is scheduled to appear in general sessions court on August 12, 2020.
