Stolen Vehicle Recovered in Macon County

By Jessie Williams

A Hartsville man was arrested last week after local enforcement found him unresponsive in a stolen car.

According to a report filed by Deputy Aaron Colter of the Macon County Sheriff’s Department, he was dispatched to a residence on RBS Rd., Monday, July 20, after the homeowner reported an unknown subject parked in their driveway.

When the deputy arrived on the scene, he discovered a 2012 Toyota Camry with an unresponsive driver inside.

The driver was later identified as 26-year-old Devon Turczyn.

An ambulance was called to the scene, and Mr. Turczyn was transported to Macon Community Hospital.

When the tag number from the car was ran by police, it came back to a different vehicle.

Another license plate found inside the car was ran and came back matching the Toyota Camry at the scene. It also revealed that it was reported stolen out of Smith County.

A small bag of marijuana and drug paraphernalia were also found during a search of the vehicle.

The car was towed to the Macon County Sheriff’s Department for further investigation.

Turczyn exited the ambulance and fled once they arrived at the hospital. He was later found and detained on Hartsville Rd.

The owner of the stolen vehicle was notified, and it is in the process of being returned.

Turczyn was charged with use of a stolen/lost vehicle, criminal trespassing, aggravated burglary, driving on a suspended license, possession of a schedule VI drug, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to appear.

His bond was set at $7,500, and he is scheduled to appear in vernal sessions court on September 2, 2020.
