Father & Son Arrested Following Altercation

By Jessie Williams

A father and son were both charged with aggravated domestic assault last week following a bloody fight that sent one of them to the emergency room.

According to a report filed by arresting officer William Tuck, he was dispatched to a residence on Highway 52 Bypass E., in the King Hill Community, around 4:15 p.m. on August 19, following a report of a fight in progress.

When the deputy arrived, he found 55-year-old Ricky G. Birge laying on the ground with a bloody head wound. Ricky’s son, 27-year-old Richard Birge, was also at the scene.

After investigating the scene, it was determined that Ricky had pulled a knife on his son while they were fighting, at which time Richard hit his father over the head with a shovel.

An ambulance was called to the scene, and Ricky was transported to the Macon County ER with non-life-threatening injuries.

Father and son were both charged with aggravated domestic assault.

Their bonds were set at $5,000 each, and they have both since bonded out.

They are scheduled to appear in general sessions court on Sept. 2, 2020.

Also at the scene during the investigation, was Sergeant Kyle Petty of the Macon County Sheriffs Department and officers from the Red Boiling Springs Police Department.
