Local Law Enforcement Seizes 6 Pounds of Marijuana

By Jessie Williams

Local law enforcement seized approximately 6 lbs. of marijuana packaged for resale last week after observing marijuana plants growing in a homeowner’s garden.

According to Macon County Sheriff Mark Gammons, he and other officers observed, from the road, what appeared to be marijuana plants growing on a Shrum Cemetery Rd. property.

After receiving permission from an adjoining land owner, they were able to view the marijuana plants in plain sight.

The officers returned to the property owner’s house, at which time the owners pulled up and did confirm it was marijuana growing in their garden.

Permission was granted for officers to search the residence, and they discovered approximately 6 lbs. of marijuana packaged for resale.

Sheriff Gammons stated that at this time, the case will be presented to the Macon County Grand Jury in October.
