Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest

By Jessie Williams

A 37-year-old Lafayette man was arrested September 22, 2020, following a traffic stop on Scottsville Rd.

According to arresting officer Detective Kevin Woodard, of the Macon County Sheriff’s Department, he made a traffic stop on a Jeep Liberty with no tags and received consent to search the vehicle from the driver, identified as Kenneth Banks.

Mr. Banks voluntarily handed over a black, zippered case to the officer and stated that it had marijuana inside.

In the case were two separate baggies that contained a green, leafy substance, along with rolling papers, a set of digital scales and Visine.

Banks admitted the marijuana was his and claimed he had just purchased it.

There was approximately 1 ounce of marijuana in each of the baggies.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered Mr. Banks had three ‘failure to appear’ warrants out for his arrest.

He was charged with possession of a schedule VI drug, possession of drug paraphernalia and registration violation.

He is scheduled to appear in general sessions court on October 6, 2020.
