Merlin Gene Show Episodes Filmed at Donoho Hotel to Premiere Jan. 30th

 By Jessie Williams

Season two of The Merlin Gene Show, recently filmed at The Donoho Hotel in Red Boiling Springs, will premiere on the RFD-TV Network Saturday, January 30, at 4:30 p.m. CST.

The Merlin Gene Show is a 30-minute version of the classic American television variety show, Hee Haw, complete with comedy, classic country music, gospel music and special guests.

Former Hee Haw cast member Roni Stoneman, or the Ironing Board Lady, as she’s thought of by many Hee Haw fans, is Gene’s co-star on the show.

The show’s host, Merlin Gene, is an American country music singer-songwriter, and humorist known for his traditional country music, and adding quirky, comedy style songs in between solid country music.

While preparing to film its second season, the show was forced to look for a venue outside of Davidson County due to COVID-19 restrictions.

“We have a large band, cast and crew,” Gene said. “We knew with a group larger than 10 in Davidson County, production could potentially be shut down. We were grateful to hear from John Cook, the owner of The Donoho Hotel, who offered to allow us to use the Ronnie McDowell Entertainment Center and Museum.”

Gene said the cast and crew recorded at the Donoho for six days, creating 13 episodes.

“We all really enjoyed our time in Macon County,” Gene recalled. “We are hoping that the exposure from the show will help bring more visitors to the area.”

Singer, Songwriter Ronnie McDowell will be the show’s first season-two special guest premiering January 30. Other special guests during the season include Barbara Fairchild, Larry Cordle and Billy Yates.

Gene said the show may also end up filming its third season at the Donoho in March, for broadcast in early July of 2021.
