Woman Killed in House Fire

On Thursday morning, April 1, the Lafayette Fire Department responded to a house fire on Hicks Hollow Road, that killed a Macon County woman.

According to Fire Chief Troy Brawner, upon arrival the two-story end of the wood frame house, where the victim resided, was on fire. “The call came in at 7:32 a.m. Thursday morning, and we had an engine on the scene by 7:46 a.m.,” said Chief Brawner, who was in charge of the scene. “We utilized the command vehicle, one engine, two tankers and a utility truck, and we remained on the site for several hours. We received mutual aid from the Westmoreland Fire Department.”

“The scene was investigated by the Bomb & Arson Division of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and the origin of the fire was undetermined,” added Chief Brawner. “The house was a total loss.”

It was confirmed that the victim was Carol Watkins, age 71.
