“Jackhammer” Truck & Tractor Pull May 8th

After COVD-19 cancelled last year’s pull, The Terry “Jackhammer” Driver Annual Scholarship Fundraiser Truck & Tractor Pull is set for Saturday night, May 8th, 2021, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Macon County Fairgrounds. The Tennessee State Championship Pulls will be proudly presented by the Lafayette Fire Department with admission set at $10. Five and under get in free.

“Terry Driver, or Jackhammer, as we called him, was an all around community spirited person, who passed away in 2003 at the age of 44, after a courageous year long battle with leukemia,” said Lafayette Fire Chief Troy Brawner. “He was Deputy Chief when he died and every time the bell went off at the Fire Hall, he was there, ready to help, wherever he was needed. We have retired his unit number 523, and it is displayed on all our equipment in his honor.”

According to Brawner, the department started the truck pull in Jackhammer’s name to help keep his spirit alive in our community, by awarding scholarships to emergency personnel’s children here in Macon County with an emphasis on the children of all firefighters. Throughout the years the department has awarded many scholarships to students here in Macon County, to help further their education.

Fireman Michael Evetts added, “Jackhammer always loved going to truck pulls and years ago, he helped a guy out, who was stranded on the side of the road. After he died, we contacted this man, Anthony Young, from Kentucky, who made it to our first fundraiser and after he placed second, he donated the money back to the fire department. A lot of local pullers have also donated their winnings back to us, especially in the early years when we were just getting the project off the ground. All the firemen are proud to be hosting this event in honor of a truly wonderful man and a great firefighter, who was an inspirational to all of us.”

“The Truck & Tractor Pull is our main project for our scholarship fund and we graciously invite everyone to come out Saturday night, May 8, 2021, to enjoy the show and help us keep Jackhammer’s name alive,” added Evetts. “There will be concessions available.”
