By Jessie Williams

A Macon County man wanted for fleeing and evading arrest in Macon County, was arrested by local officers in Kentucky last week with meth, acid and marijuana in his possession.

According to Macon County Detective Shane Gregory, he and detective Kevin Woodard were at the Gamaliel Market & Deli on April 15, 2021 around 3:30 pm, collecting evidence for a case they were working on, when they spotted a male and female inside a blue Cavalier.

The detectives identified the male as 40-year-old Derek Saddler, who had active warrants out for his arrest in Macon County.

The detectives contacted Monroe County law enforcement and waited for their arrival.

While waiting however, Saddler and his girlfriend began driving out of the parking lot. The officers then began following them.

With Macon County detectives and Monroe County officers on his tail, Saddler began driving at a high rate of speed into Barren County, Kentucky.

At that time Barren County law enforcement began to assist as well, and Saddler was detained.

A search of his person, led to the discovery of approximately  22.5 grams of a crystalized substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine, three strips of acid and approximately 6.6 grams of a green, leafy substance identified as marijuana.

Saddler also had active warrants for his arrest in Barren County, and he was taken to the Barren County Jail.

He is currently incarcerated at Macon County Jail on the charges of violation of probation, manufacturing of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, evading arrest and driving on a suspended license.

Detective Gregory will be indicting Saddler on additional charges when the next grand jury meets in Monroe County.

Macon County Sheriff Mark Gammons would like to thank the Barren County Sheriffs Department, the Monroe County Sheriffs Department and the Kentucky State Police for their assistance in this case.
