Beer Sales in Restaurants, and on Sundays Passes on First Reading

The Lafayette City Council met in regular session on Tuesday, July 6, and passed on first reading Ordinance 784, which will allow beer sales in restaurants and on Sundays.

Of the six council votes, those voting yes were Jeff Hudson, Debra Harris, Tom Roberts and David Kempf. Jason Phelps and Steve Turner voted no.

Ordinance 784 states that the sale of beer on Sundays shall be allowed only between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Ordinance 784 also states, that to qualify for an on-premises permit, an establishment must be a dine in restaurant, be engaged in the sale of prepared on site meals, and have been in continuous operation for a period of not less than 30 days.

In addition, the monthly beer sales of any establishment which holds an on-premises permit shall not exceed 25% of the gross sales of the establishment. Any establishment which for two consecutive months, or for three months in any calendar year has beer sales exceeding 25% of its gross sales, shall have its beer permit revoked.

Upon passing of the second reading, the beer board will convene to determine the specifications of the beer permits.

In new business:

Approval was granted for Chief Gann to hire Jada Ruiz for the full-time dispatch position, level 2, at $13.93 per hour.

Approval was granted for Chief Gann to hire Deneshia Hesson part time, level 1, at $18.11 an hour.

Approval was granted for Chief Gann to promote Michelle Dotson to Administrative Assistant, level 4, at $20.33 an hour.

Approval was granted for Chief Gann to post within the department for the position of Records Clerk/Alt TAC.

The city council voted to accept the resignation of Patrolman Jason Sells from the Lafayette Police Department.

The city council voted to hire Hunter Sullivan to fill the patrolman position, level 4, at $16.41 an hour.

The city council voted to accept the resignation of Sgt. Derrick Gann from the Lafayette Police Department.

The city council voted to hire Dylan Gann to fill the position of Derrick Gann, level 4, at $16.41 an hour.

Approval was granted to remove the Administrative Director job from the police department’s job descriptions.

Approval was granted to change the job description of Tom Dallas to be stated as Animal Control/Fire Training Officer with a salary increase from $15.28 to $17.25 an hour.

Approval was granted to have Don Stevens and Chief Brawner take care of all building codes matters until a determination is made on how to take care of the position.

Approval was granted to hire a sewer department service person 1.

Resolution No. 07-06-21, to designate 2 acres at the shooting range to the fire department for a training area, was approved by the council.

Resolution No. 07-07-21, to give 911 the authority to direct page the fire department, was approved by the council.

Approval was granted to begin work on the Bratton Avenue sewer project.

Approval was granted to allow the police department to sell a patrol car on Gov Deals.

Approval was granted to allow state bids of all new city vehicles and equipment approved in the new budget. 

Approval was granted to advertise to take bids for the building of new restrooms at city park.
