Intoxicated Man Flees Scene of Wreck
By Jessie Williams
A 34-year-old Whitleyville man was arrested last week after crashing his vehicle at a high rate of speed and fleeing the scene.
According to a report filed by Sergeant Jacob Law of the Macon County Sheriffs Department, he was dispatched to the area of Scottsville Rd. and Wheeley Springs Rd. following a report of a wreck. The complainant also advised that the man involved had walked away from the scene towards town.
When Sergeant Law arrived at the scene, he spoke to several witnesses who stated that the man appeared to be “messed up” and walked behind a nearby house.
After searching behind a barn on the property, the officers located the man under a camper. Upon exiting the camper, officers observed lacerations on the man’s face, presumably from hitting the windshield.
Macon County EMS was called to the scene, and the man was identified as Jacob Miller.
Mr. Miller told officers the vehicle was his company vehicle, but when the company was contacted they were told the vehicle had been stolen and they did not know Mr. Miller.
A quarter of a bottle of vodka was left in a 750 ml bottle found on the floorboard of the vehicle. Mr. Miller was not wearing a seatbelt, did not have a valid license and currently has warrants for his arrest in Iowa.
A witness stated Mr. Miller was all over the road, crossing over the yellow line to pass individuals and then wrecked at a high rate of speed.
Miller was taken to Macon Community Hospital.
After being x-rayed, Miller ran out of the hospital. He was picked up and arrested a short time later by Deputy Josh Meador.
He was then transported to the Macon County Jail and booked on the following charges: leaving the scene of an accident, evading arrest, driving without a license, resisting arrest, theft of property, violation of open container law, driver to exercise due care, failure to report, driving under the influence and seatbelt law violation.
His bond was set at $12,000, and he is scheduled to appear in general sessions court on January 12, 2022.
