Local authorities are investigating a hit and run after a man was found dead on Akersville Road, just north of Twins Lane.
According to Macon County Sheriff Mark Gammons, a motorist reported finding the man laying on the road, bleeding and unresponsive, around 12 a.m. on Friday, April 8.
The man was pronounced dead on the scene by Macon County EMS and was later identified as Charles Key Jr.
Mr. Key resided on Scottsville Rd. and was 32 years old. It’s believed he was walking in the roadway at the time he was struck and killed.
Video footage from a local residence around the time of the incident is being reviewed by investigators.
“While we don’t have any suspects at this time, we are treating this case as a hit and run and are working with the Tennessee Highway Patrol to identify the vehicle that struck Mr. Key,” remarked the sheriff. “We are asking anyone with information or witnesses in this case to contact the Macon County Sheriff’s Office or the Tennessee Highway Patrol office in Cookeville.”
