Drones Utilized to Help Protect Schools
Macon County officers have begun training on the department’s newly acquired drones with practice flights.
The deputies selected are currently studying to obtain their drone pilot licenses, which are required by the FAA.
The department has also utilized the drones to begin aerial mapping of all the schools in the county, in order to aid in active shooter response training. This will give officers a better perspective on the entire area and surroundings of each school to better protect school children and staff.
The drones were purchased with funds from the Macon County Sheriff’s Office Drug Fund, at no cost to taxpayers.
