Bulldogs break 19 game losing streak


On a night when everything went right for the Bulldogs they broke a 19 game losing streak to claim a 65-42 victory over a shocked crowd.

The Bulldogs had not tasted a victory since Nov 18th when they won over White House and all those games where the Bulldogs lost by two or three points are now forgotten. Lost are those games where the Bulldogs led late in the fourth quarter are now a faded memory. The Bulldogs just might be a tough out in the district tournament.

The Bulldogs got back to back three pointers to start the game from Colton Copas and Chris Hackney and a 12 point lead jumped to a 17 point lead after the first quarter. Aubrey Link had back to back baskets and Joe Birdwell had a nice three pointer. The Bulldogs held the Buffaloes to only 12 points in the first half while scoring 34 first half points. Most Bulldogs fans were not expecting that kind of defensive effort which was the very best of the season. The Bulldogs hold a 22 point lead at the break and that is a record for this year.

Colton Copas kept up the onslaught by scoring 14 third quarter points and Link had five points in the quarter and the Bulldogs held a 56-34 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs fans were making a case for certain Bulldog reserves to get into the game and Bulldog head coach Andrew Mullinix put those kids in the game. Nate Logan entered the contest along with Senior Maxie Wilson and both scored points much to the delight of the home crowd. Bulldogs win by a final score of 65-42.

Scoring totals for the Bulldogs include Colton Copas scoring 29 points, now Copas is a member of the one thousand club with 1003 points. Colton is only a junior. Link had 13 points and 14 rebounds, Chris Hackney 10 points, Oriley Thompson 5 points and only three turnovers, Joe Birdwell 3 points, Nate Logan 3 points, and Maxie Wilson 2 points.

The Lady Bulldogs entered their game against Clarkrange with a chance to put a lock on third place in district 7A and they came out on fire leading 23-15 at halftime. Lady Bulldog Bre Thompson scored eight first half points and Chloe Powell added six points. Bailey Massengille had five first half points.

What happened in the third quarter was a shock to the fans of the Lady Bulldogs and the fans of Clarkrange were surprised also. The Lady Buffaloes knocked down two long three pointers plus a basket and 1. Nine straight points by Clarkrange at that point. The Lady Bulldogs just could not buy a basket. Things get worse for Red Boiling Springs as Clarkrange scored 24 points in the third quarter while holding the home team to only 11 points in the same time frame.

There would be no comeback by the Lady Bulldogs on this night as Clarkrange kept putting pressure on the ball and Clarkrange wins by a final score of 50-43 .The pattern of scoring by the Lady Bulldogs will be examined in their next few games.

Scoring totals were: Thompson 12 points, Claire Fleming 11 points, Bailey Massengille 10 points, Chloe Powell 6 points, and Kennedy Marshall 4 points.
