Rough week for Macon basketball
It was a rough week for both basketball programs at Macon County High School. They lost all four games on two nights of play.
On Jan 24th district opponent Livingston Academy came to town. Ever had one of those times when everything you did wasn’t right? That seemed to be the case for the Tigerettes as they couldn’t buy a basket most of the night.
Macon County would score two in the first quarter, nine in the second, and seven in the third all the while seeing the Lady Cats score in double digits each period. Leading 25-11 at halftime, Livingston would cruise to a 54-29 win.
Scoring was: Katie Shockley 12, Kadence Walrond 10, Karly Ramsey 4, and Alexis Bandy 3. Allie Thompson, Valerie Kirby, Laityn Kirby, Natalie Green, Taylor Green, Kaylee Slayton, and Chloe Solomon all played but did not score.
The boys game wasn’t much better. The Tigers started off well and led 13-12 after the first quarter. But things fell apart. Macon couldn’t make a shot, couldn’t get a rebound, and just couldn’t do anything. For the first time all season they failed to score a single point in the quarter.
Not much else can be said about the Tiger performance after the first eight minutes. Final score Livingston 55 Macon 36 and it wasn’t even that close.
Scoring was: Cason Gregory 14, McKade Mix 10, Brady Driver 8, Dalton Hudson 2, and Jack Hogin 2. Braylon Flowers, Logan Bandy, Correy Shrum, Braylon Marshall, Lee Jenkins, Jay Wilson, Branson Capps, Garron West, and Hayden Calvert all played but did not score.
On Jan 27th Macon County travelled to Upperman. The Lady Bees have been a nemesis of the Tigerettes over the years. However, this night they were just too much, forcing 13 Macon turnovers in the game. Upperman led 28-19 at the break.
The Lady Bees would provide much of the same in the second half and would cruise to a 58-37 win. The last win over this team came in 2020.
Scoring was: Ramsey 15, Thompson 8, Laityn Kirby 6, Shockley 5, and Walrond 3.
You would hope the Tigers would respond from their performance against Livingston. However Upperman has been a real good program in the past and they are not the team to get a rebound win from.
Same song different verse. Macon only scores eight points in the first two quarters while giving up 21 and 14 respectively. Then only manages to score five points in the entire second half, again giving up 27 and 13 respectively. Upperman triples up the Tigers and wins 75-21.
Scoring was: Driver 8, Hudson 7, Mix 3, Hogin 2, and Flowers 1.
This week Macon County will host Westmoreland on Jan 30th for Senior Night, travel to DeKalb County on Jan 31st, and travel to Stone Memorial on Feb 3rd. The first game each night is scheduled to tip at 6 pm.
