Proposed USDA Financing of New Administrative Bldg.

On Monday, March 6, 2023, the Legislative Body of Macon County will conduct a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the upstairs courtroom of the Macon County Courthouse, located on the public square in Lafayette. The purpose of this meeting is to give the citizens of Macon County, Tennessee, the opportunity to become acquainted with the proposed USDA financing, in the current amount of $4.5 million dollars, for the construction of the Macon County Administrative Building, on Nature Trail Way at Winding Stairs Park in Lafayette.

Macon County commissioners realized that the courthouse has outgrown the public square and with all the elected offices that are in the courthouse, the traffic around the square is making it much more difficult for people to access it. Plus most of the county offices are running out of space. The commissioners unanimously voted to build a new administrative building and hopefully when all the documentation is approved, construction should start on the building by mid summer.

Macon County commissioners do not have any intentions of doing away with the county courthouse and the intent is for it to be maintained and used for archive storage and to keep the historical value of the county.
