Ada Smalling

Ada Gertrude Smalling, better known to her family as “Sue”, was born into this world on July 1, 1942, to the late Mitchell M. Casteel and Carrie G. Herald Casteel. She passed from this life onto her Heavenly Reward on Monday, February 13, 2023, at the age of eighty years, seven months, and twelve days. Sue was saved by The Good Lord’s Grace at a young age while ironing clothes. She was of the General Baptist Belief. She married Delton J. Smalling in 1958 and they shared forty-five years together before his passing on December 16, 2003.

Along with her parents and husband, Sue was also preceded in death by Son, Junior Lee Smalling; Brothers, Thurman Casteel and Doug Casteel; and Sisters, Opel Graves and Sandra Elkens. Sue was a homemaker and loved her family very much! In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and working cross word puzzles. Sue will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Ms. Ada “Sue” Smalling is survived by; Sons, David Lee Smalling, James Jr. Smalling and Wife, Kathy, and Delbert Smalling; Daughters, Deborah Carter and Husband, Richard, Patricia Carr, and Wilma Jones and Husband, Raymond; and Sister, Mary Phillips. A host of Grandchildren, Great-grandchildren, and Great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Ms. Ada “Sue” Smalling were conducted on Thursday, February 16, 2023, from The Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Reverend Billy Pete Freeman, Jr. officiating.
