Macon out in first round of District 7-3A tournament
Both basketball teams at Macon County High School had first round games in the District 7-3A last week. Both teams saw their season end.
The Tigerettes opened with a game at the #1 seeded Upperman Lady Bees on Tuesday Feb 14th in Baxter. Upperman had two 20 point wins over Macon in the regular season. The Tigerettes put up a hard fight and one thing you cannot question is this team’s effort. However Upperman led 17-11 after the first eight minutes and 35-26 at the break.
Pressure and an inability to score just made the mountain too high to climb in the second half for Macon. Upperman went on to win by a final score of 67-44.
The Tigerettes were behind 16 to four in the turnover margin and had only 36 shots from the field to Upperman’s 50. Scoring totals were: Laityn Kirby 11 points, Natalie Green 9 points, Kaydence Walrond 9 points, Allie Thompson 8 points, and Karly Ramsey 7 points. Alexis Bandy, Taylor Green, Valerie Kirby, Katie Shockley, Kaylee Slayton, and Chloe Solomon all played in the game but did not score.
The Tigerettes finish their season with an overall record of 7-21 and 1-11 in district play.
The Tigers had to face the #2 seed in the Livingston Academy Wildcats in Livingston on Friday Feb 17. The Wildcats also claimed two wins over the Tigers in the regular season by 21 and 19 points respectively.
Macon simply could not match the offensive output of the Wildcats. Livingston would win this one going away by a final score of 70-39. No stats were available at presstime.
The Tigers end their 2022-2023 campaign with a record of 5-25 overall and 0-12 in district play.
