Melba Barber


Melba Sue Barber was born into this world on July 27, 1941, in the Siloam Community of Macon County to the late James Rudolph Hughes and Glean C. White Hughes. She was called to her Heavenly Home on Friday, March 9, 2023 at the age of eighty-one years, seven months, and thirteen days.

She was saved in July 1956 and was a member of Cedar Bluff Missionary Baptist Church. She married Ray Dean Barber on January 30, 1981 and he passed three months to the day before she did. Melba Sue had missed him terribly. Along with her parents and dear husband, Melba Sue was also preceded in death by her Sister, Marilyn Francis and Infant Sister, Dolly Faye Hughes. She was employed at TVA and in her spare time enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles.

Funeral Services for Melba were conducted on March 12, 2023 from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Donald Taylor officiating. Interment followed in the Macon County Memorial Gardens. Melba Sue

Barber is survived by: Son, Jeff Hughes and wife, Debbie; Daughter, Glenda Gross and husband, Chris; Grandchildren, Hannah Langford and husband, Andrew, Emily Brawner and husband, Dawson, Abby Oyster, Dylan Gross and wife, Kenzie, Stephen Boyd; Great-Grandson, Hudson Gross; Great-Granddaughter on the way, Andi Brooke Langford; Sister-in-law, Bonnie Huffines. Melba Sue will be dearly missed but we know from her testimony of salvation that she is in a far better country.
