RBSHS Softball loses to Clay Co 5-3

The Red Boiling Springs Lady Bulldog Softball Team has not played well during the regular season and especially in district 7A competition. They played very well last Thursday night but still lost to Clay County by a final score of 5-3. This was a great game to watch no matter who you were cheering for.

Clay County drew first blood by scoring two runs in the top of the second inning on two walks and three hits plus a Lady Bulldog error. The Red Boiling Springs came right back to tie the game on two hits and a walk plus an error by Clay County. Nautica Goolsby singled to start the inning followed by a walk to Stacy Bravo and Kaitlyn Claywell followed with a hit to score two runs. The crowd was into this game, they were very loud.

Clay County would add a single run in the top of the 4th inning to grab a 3-2 lead, but Red Boiling Springs came right back to tie the game at 3-3. Clay County left eight runners stranded in the first four innings of play while the Lady Bulldogs left only four runners stranded.

Red Boiling Springs would threaten to score in the last two innings, but some bad base running kept the Lady Bulldogs from touching home plate. Clay County made two great defensive plays to keep the Lady Bulldogs from scoring.

Clay County would score the winning runs on two walks plus two hits in the top of the 6th inning. The RBS Lady Bulldogs would make a throwing error that sent the 4th and 5th runners home and a 5-3 victory for the kids from Clay County would prevail. The Lady Bulldogs would put runners on first base and second base with only one out but a ground ball kept both runners from advancing.

The Lady Bulldogs have not won a district game this year but if they keep playing like last Thursday night then victories will follow. The Lady Bulldogs are working very hard to get better, especially on defense. We need to keep supporting the coaching staff and the players because the season is not over. Let’s go Lady Bulldogs.
