Mattress Dumper Found With Meth & Fentanyl

Danny Gene Williams

By Jessie Williams

A man caught dumping a mattress on the side of the road, was arrested last week for criminal littering and a variety of drugs charges.

According to the affidavit of complaint, filed by Detective Jason Sells of the Macon County Sheriff’s Department, the officer witnessed a GMC Envoy sitting in the middle of a travel lane on Epperson Springs Rd. while he was on patrol in the area on April 26, 2023.

Detective Sells states that he witnessed a man standing outside of the vehicle placing straps back in the vehicle.

Upon speaking with the man, identified as 50-year-old Danny Gene Williams, he was advised he has just thrown some items away.

Officer Sells advised Mr. Williams that he has seen him, approximately 10-15 minutes earlier, with a mattress and box spring on the roof of his car.

While speaking with him, Officer Sells also noticed what appeared to be the same mattress and box spring off the side of the roadway down a hill. Mr. Williams admitted those were the items he dumped on property that didn’t belong to him.

The detective noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, and a probable cause search was conducted on the Envoy.

Close to where Mr. Williams was sitting, officers discovered approximately 2.66 grams of marijuana and .48 grams of methamphetamine. The methamphetamine field tested positive for both methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Williams admitted the drugs belonged to him and also handed over a marijuana bong that belonged to him.

He was taken into custody and charged with criminal littering, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of probation, possession of methamphetamine and possession of fentanyl.

His bond was set at $17,500, and he is scheduled to appear in general sessions court on May 3, 2023.
