Tigers move through 7-3A Tournament


The Macon County Tigers are moving through the post-season District 7-3A tournament. Last week they played in three games.

Finishing the regular season in 3rd place the Tigers hosted a first round match-up against Cumberland County on May 4th. Macon plated one run in the third and four more in the fifth to get the 5-0 shut-out victory.

Jacob Hunt was on the mound and got the complete game win hurling seven innings allowing only three hits, no runs, and striking out 11 batters. Kaden Woodard, Ely Malo, Hayden Dean, Braylon Flowers and Hayes Polston all collected hits for the Tiger offense. Malo and Woodard each collected two RBIs.

With that victory Macon earned the right to face the #1 seed and regular season champions, the Upperman Bees, in Baxter on May 5th. Macon simply hit a buzz-saw as Upperman scored runs in five of the six innings played enroute to a 14-4 win for the Bees.

Braxton Lloyd, Jordan Rogers and Dean all had hits and scored runs. Woodard and Malo also collected hits. Landon Connor was the pitcher of record, throwing two and two-thirds innings allowing six hits four earned runs in 18 batters faced. Chase Keene came on and threw three innings and allowed eight hits and six earned runs.

In the double elimination tournament, the Tigers now faced DeKalb County in an elimination game on May 6th. Macon would score in the second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to defeat DeKalb by a score of 12-3.

Braylon Flowers was on the mound and gets the complete game victory. He went the full seven innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits and had eight strike outs. Every other member in the batting line-up had hits: Dean, Woodard, Malo, Polston, Matthew Wheeley, Nate Green, Rogers, and Lloyd. Dean and Green had multiple hits and scored runs.

Now Macon will face Stone Memorial on Monday May 8th at 4 pm in another elimination game. The Tigers split their two games in the regular season with Stone. If they were to win that game they would face Livingston at 7 pm on Monday for the right to face Upperman in the finals of the 7-3A tournament.
