Robert Reed Sr

Robert Reed, resident of Lafayette, TN, went to be with the Lord and received his wings on
Tuesday, May 30, 2023. He was 92 years old.

On March 8, 1931, Robert was born in Frankford, Indiana, to his parents Bessie and Rayman Reed. He grew up in Indiana with his seven siblings. Four brother’s Raymen Jr. Reed (Sonny Jr.), Richard Reed (Dick), Donalld Reed (Don), Benny Joe Reed (Joe), three sisters Bethany Reed, Kathryn Reed (Kate), and Nancy Reed.

Robert joined the Army in 1947, then re-enlisted January 1949. He was in the Korean War until June 2, 1950. Robert received four purple hearts and many metals. He married Shirley Hurt on May 31, 1952 and they had five children, one daughter and four sons. Robert Reed Jr., twin boy’s Terald Reed (Terry) and Gareld Reed (Gary), Pamela Reed (Pam) and Ralph Reed. They parted their ways September 1976. Robert then met and married Verna Joanna Wynn. November 9, 1976. Robert had 5 kids, 13 grandkids, 21 great grandkids, and 2 great, great grandkids. He always had a special place in his heart for his grandkids.

Robert enjoyed life with his family and friends. But his very best friend was his sister Betty & Ralph Kingery. There was never a time Robert and Betty wasn’t close. In his later years, in Tennessee, he had friends that became family. (A few his granddughter could name are Brownie, Justin, Christine, Gaylon, Deborah and his boy Jose. He never met a stranger. Robert would do anything and everything for the people he loved.)

Robert loved to work in his wood working shop. He also enjoyed his garden and greenhouse, but one of his favorite things was going to his sister Betty’s house and eating home cooked meals that tasted just like their mama’s cooking. Then going to his recliner in Betty’s front room and taking a nap, before going home. Robert wasn’t just a legend and hero to his family, but also for our country. The Lord made him with an extra special material.

He was preceded in death by his mom Bessie Reed, dad Raymen Reed, brother Sonny Jr., brother Dick, brother Don, sister Kate, brother Joe, son Ralph Reed, twin boy’s Terry and Gary, first wife Shirley, second wife Joanne and brother-in-law Ralph Klingery. We pray Robert will be laid to rest at Silom Cemetery, Westmoreland, TN 37186.
