Lafayette 12U Competes at State Tournament

This past week the 12U Lafayette Little League All-Star team competed in their state tournament. The event was held in Columbia, TN.

Bracket play began on Saturday but was delayed due to weather moving thru the area. Lafayette was slated to face Burns in the 4 pm game in their opening game of the tournament.

Burns broke the ice with a run in the top of the first to take an early lead 1-0. Then in the bottom of the second inning Deacon Green hit a blast over the left-centerfield fence with Kaeden Greer on first to give Lafayette the lead 2-1.

In the top of the third Burns scored two runs with a controversial call in a bang-bang play at home plate. Had Lafayette gotten the call they could have gotten out of the inning allowing only one run. However after three innings Burns led 3-2.

Walks really hurt the Lafayette team as they gave up seven free bases in the thirty-three batters the four Lafayette pitchers faced. Two hits and a walk produced three more runs for Burns in the top of the fifth to make the score 6-2.

Lafayette would score one run in the bottom of the fifth. Camden Haehl would score following a double by Gunner Carlisle making the score 6-3. Greer would score in the bottom of the sixth on a double by Green to make the final score Burns 6 Lafayette 4.

The tournament is a double elimination contest. With the loss Lafayette moved to the loser’s bracket and would face Daniel Boone out of east Tennessee on Sunday at 5 pm.

Gunner Carlisle was the pitcher of record for Lafayette against Daniel Boone and he got the win by a final score of 5-2.

Lafayette is now scheduled to play Lexington out of west Tennessee on Monday July 17 at 8 pm. This game will be an elimination game for each team.
